Tens and Ones

All numbers are built from tens and ones — like stacking blocks!

Every number you write is made of two parts: the TENS digit on the left, and the ONES digit on the right. Each digit has a place, and that place tells us its value.

🧱Building the number 23
23 = 2 tens + 3 ones
📦📦  +  ✏️✏️✏️
= 20 + 3 = 23
🎯Reading the number 47
In 47:
• The 4 is in the TENS place → 4 tens = 40
• The 7 is in the ONES place → 7 ones = 7

40 + 7 = 47
✏️ Try It!

What is 3 tens and 5 ones?

💡

Remember This!

Always read the LEFT digit first — that is the tens. Then the RIGHT digit — that is the ones. The number 46 means 4 tens (40) and 6 ones.
