Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 3, 2026 ย ยทย  Effective: June 17, 2026

1. Overview

Dangon ("Dangon", "we", "us", or "our") operates the website located at https://learn.dangon.co (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit and use our Service.

Dangon is a free Kโ€“12 educational platform providing interactive lessons, learning games, and educational tools to students worldwide. We are committed to protecting the privacy of all users, especially children under the age of 13.

Please read this policy carefully. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Service immediately.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Voluntarily

When you create an account, we may collect:

  • Email address
  • Username or display name
  • Password (stored in encrypted form)
  • Grade level (optional, used to personalise content)

You may use the Service without creating an account. Guest users can access lessons and games without providing any personal information.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you use the Service, we may automatically collect:

  • Browser type, version, and language
  • Operating system and device type
  • IP address (anonymised where possible)
  • Pages visited and time spent on pages
  • Referring URLs
  • Date and time of access

2.3 Progress Data (Stored Locally)

Lesson completion, quiz scores, and game progress are stored in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless you are signed into an account with cloud sync enabled.

3. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Dangon is an educational platform intended for use by children of all ages, including children under 13. We comply fully with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), 15 U.S.C. ยงยง 6501โ€“6506, and the COPPA Rule, 16 C.F.R. Part 312.

3.1 No Direct Collection from Children Under 13 Without Parental Consent

We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13 without verifiable parental consent. The core Service (lessons, games, and tools) is accessible without any account registration or personal data submission.

If a child under 13 wishes to create an account, we require a parent or guardian to provide consent by registering on the child's behalf using a parent/guardian email address.

3.2 What We Do NOT Collect from Children

  • Full name, home address, or phone number
  • Social security number or government ID
  • Photos, videos, or audio recordings
  • Geolocation data beyond country-level
  • Behavioural advertising profiles
  • Sensitive demographic information

3.3 Parental Rights

Parents and legal guardians have the right to:

  • Review the personal information collected about their child
  • Request deletion of their child's personal information
  • Refuse to permit further collection or use of their child's information
  • Request that we stop contacting their child

To exercise these rights, please contact us at dango@dangon.co. We will respond within 30 days.

3.4 Discovery of Unauthorised Collection

If we discover that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete that information promptly. Please notify us at dango@dangon.co if you believe this has occurred.

3.5 Advertising to Children

Dangon displays advertising to support the free Service. Because Dangon is a child-directed service, we have configured our advertising partner, Google AdSense, to apply child-directed treatment and to serve only non-personalised, contextual advertisements. Contextual advertisements are based solely on the content of the page being viewed โ€” never on a profile of the user.

We do not permit our advertising partner to:

  • Build advertising or behavioural profiles from children's data
  • Serve interest-based or behaviourally targeted advertising to children
  • Track children across other websites, apps, or services for advertising purposes
  • Use children's personal information for the advertiser's own marketing purposes

We do not disclose children's personal information to third parties for targeted advertising, and we do not sell or share children's personal information. See Section 7 for details on how our advertising partner processes limited technical data.

3.6 Visitors without an account

Anyone can read lessons, work through practice sets and use the calculators without creating an account. When you do, Dangon collects no personal information about you or your child: progress stays in your browser, and the only data we receive are anonymous page-level counts. Contextual advertising shown to visitors without an account is delivered under the COPPA Rule's support for internal operations exception (16 C.F.R. ยง 312.2), which permits an advertisement chosen from the content of the page โ€” never from a profile of the visitor โ€” and our advertising partner is instructed accordingly (tag for age treatment: child; non-personalised ads only). Advertising is currently shown only to visitors in the United States. A parent's verifiable consent is asked for at the first moment we would collect a child's personal information: when a child profile is created.

4. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • Personalise content and learning experiences based on grade level
  • Track learning progress and quiz scores (for registered users)
  • Communicate with you regarding account updates, if applicable
  • Monitor and analyse usage to improve the Service
  • Detect and prevent fraudulent, unauthorised, or illegal activity
  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Respond to legal requests from law enforcement or government authorities

We display third-party contextual advertisements to keep the Service free (see Section 7). We do not use your personal information for:

  • Targeted, behavioural, or interest-based advertising
  • Selling or renting data to third parties
  • Automated decision-making that produces legal or significant effects
  • Creating advertising profiles from children's data

5. Cookies & Local Storage

5.1 Cookies

We use cookies for the following purposes:

  • Session cookies: to keep you signed in during your visit (deleted when you close the browser)
  • Preference cookies: to remember your theme (light/dark) and grade selection
  • Analytics cookies: anonymised usage statistics to help us improve the Service (no personally identifiable information)

Advertising cookies: our advertising partner (Google AdSense) may set or read non-personalised advertising cookies and similar identifiers strictly to serve contextual ads, limit how often the same ad is shown to you (frequency capping), and detect invalid or fraudulent activity. These are not used to build advertising profiles or to track you across other websites for behavioural targeting.

Consent in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland: where required by law, we request your consent through a cookie banner before any non-essential cookies (including advertising cookies) are set, and you may withdraw consent at any time. You can also opt out of personalised Google advertising at adssettings.google.com.

5.2 Local Storage

Your lesson completion status, quiz scores, and game progress are stored entirely within your browser's localStorage. This data is local to your device and is not sent to our servers. Clearing your browser data will remove this progress.

5.3 Managing Cookies

You may disable cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling cookies may affect certain features of the Service, such as staying logged in between sessions. Disabling cookies does not affect localStorage-based progress data.

6. Sharing of Information

We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties for commercial purposes. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service Providers: trusted third-party vendors who assist in operating the Service (e.g., hosting, analytics), bound by confidentiality agreements and prohibited from using your data for any other purpose
  • Advertising Partner: Google AdSense receives limited technical data (such as IP address, user agent, and the page URL) to serve non-personalised contextual ads, cap ad frequency, and prevent fraud, under Google's data-protection terms โ€” never to build advertising profiles of you
  • Legal Requirements: if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Dangon, our users, or the public
  • Business Transfers: in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, users will be notified via email or a prominent notice on the Service
  • With Your Consent: in any other case, only with your explicit prior consent

6.1 We Do Not Sell or Share Your Personal Information

Dangon does not sell your personal information and does not "share" it for cross-context behavioural advertising, as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and comparable U.S. state privacy laws. Our advertising is contextual only. Because we do not sell or share personal information, no "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" opt-out is required; however, you may still contact us at dango@dangon.co with any privacy request.

Consistent with U.S. student-privacy laws (such as California's SOPIPA and similar state statutes), we do not use information identifiable to a Kโ€“12 student to engage in targeted advertising, and we do not sell student information.

7. Advertising & Third-Party Services

The Service may incorporate third-party services, including:

  • Hosting infrastructure (servers and CDN providers)
  • Anonymous analytics tools (no cross-site tracking)
  • Authentication services (for account sign-in)
  • Google AdSense (contextual, non-personalised advertising)

These third parties have their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review their policies before using the Service. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of third-party services.

7.1 Advertising (Google AdSense)

The Service displays advertising provided by Google AdSense. Because Dangon is a child-directed service, we have enabled child-directed treatment and non-personalised ad serving. This means advertisements are selected based on the content of the page, not on a profile of the user, and Google is contractually restricted from using the data to build advertising profiles or to serve behaviourally targeted ads.

To serve contextual ads, cap ad frequency, and prevent fraud, Google may process limited technical data such as your IP address, browser/user-agent string, and the URL of the page you are viewing. Google's handling of this data is described in its policies:

  • How Google uses information from sites that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
  • Google advertising policies: policies.google.com/technologies/ads

We block advertising categories that are inappropriate for a child audience, and all advertisements are clearly labelled. We use no advertising network other than Google AdSense, and we do not serve targeted or behavioural advertising.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, or as required by law.

  • Account data: retained for the duration of your account and deleted within 30 days of account deletion
  • Usage logs: retained for up to 12 months in anonymised form
  • Progress data stored in localStorage: controlled entirely by you โ€” cleared when you clear your browser data
  • Backup copies: may be retained for up to 90 days after deletion for disaster recovery purposes

Children's data retention: in accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we retain personal information collected from a child only for as long as is reasonably necessary to provide the Service and fulfil the purpose for which it was collected. We do not retain children's personal information indefinitely, and we delete it securely once it is no longer needed.

To request deletion of your account and associated data, contact us at dango@dangon.co.

9. Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction, including:

  • HTTPS encryption for all data in transit (TLS 1.2+)
  • Bcrypt hashing for stored passwords
  • Access controls limiting who can access personal data
  • Regular security reviews and vulnerability assessments

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights with respect to your personal information:

  • Right to Access: request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Right to Rectification: request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"): request deletion of your personal information
  • Right to Restriction: request that we limit how we use your information
  • Right to Data Portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Right to Object: object to processing of your personal information for certain purposes
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at dango@dangon.co. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.

11. GDPR & International Users

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the following additional provisions apply under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and equivalent laws:

Legal Bases for Processing

  • Contract: processing necessary to provide the Service to you
  • Legitimate Interests: improving and securing the Service, preventing fraud
  • Legal Obligation: complying with applicable laws
  • Consent: where you have given explicit consent (e.g., optional analytics)

Data Controller

Dangon acts as the data controller for personal information collected through the Service. Contact: dango@dangon.co.

You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe we have processed your data unlawfully.

We do not transfer personal data outside the EEA without appropriate safeguards in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technologies, legal requirements, or for other operational reasons. When we make material changes, we will:

  • Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
  • Notify registered users by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect
  • Display a prominent notice on the Service

Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the changes, you should discontinue use of the Service and, if applicable, delete your account.

13. Contact Us
