Flat shapes have length and width — you can draw them on paper!
FLAT SHAPES (also called 2D shapes) lie flat on a surface like paper. They have a length and a width, but no depth. You draw them, you cannot pick them up!
The main 2D shapes:
SQUARE → 4 equal sides, 4 corners RECTANGLE → 4 sides (top=bottom, left=right), 4 corners TRIANGLE → exactly 3 sides, 3 corners CIRCLE → NO sides, NO corners — perfectly round!
Has corners
No corners
Circles are special — they have no sides and no corners at all!
A stop sign has 8 sides. What shape is it?
Remember This!
Count the SIDES to name any shape: 3 sides = triangle, 4 equal sides = square, 4 unequal sides = rectangle, no sides = circle!
