Solid Shapes (3D)

3D shapes have length, width, AND depth — you can pick them up and hold them!

SOLID SHAPES (also called 3D shapes) take up real space. Unlike flat shapes, they have length, width, AND height. You can hold a 3D shape in your hand!

The main 3D shapes:

1🎲 CUBE — 6 equal square faces, like a dice
2🥫 CYLINDER — 2 flat circles + 1 curved side, like a soup can
3🔴 SPHERE — perfectly round all the way around, like a ball
4🍦 CONE — 1 flat circle base + 1 curved side ending in a point, like an ice cream cone
5📦 RECTANGULAR PRISM — 6 rectangular faces, like a cereal box
6🔺 PYRAMID — flat base + triangular sides meeting at a tip

🥫 Soup can → Cylinder
⚽ Soccer ball → Sphere
🎂 Birthday hat → Cone
🎲 Game die → Cube

Shapes with curved surfaces can roll. Shapes with only flat faces cannot!

✏️ Try It!

Which 3D shape has NO flat faces — it is round all the way around?

💡

Remember This!

2D shapes are like the flat "face" of a 3D shape. The face of a cube is a square. The flat face of a cylinder is a circle!
