Every two-digit number is built from tens and ones — like building blocks!
Every number has digits, and each digit lives in a PLACE. In a two-digit number, the left digit is the TENS place and the right digit is the ONES place. The tens digit tells you how many groups of 10 there are, and the ones digit tells you how many extras.
Building the number 37:
3 tens (boxes of 10) + 7 ones = 37!
In the number 64: • 6 is in the TENS place → 6 tens = 60 • 4 is in the ONES place → 4 ones = 4 60 + 4 = 64 🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦 (6 tens) + 🟨🟨🟨🟨 (4 ones)
