The Equal Sign Means Balance

The equal sign (=) means both sides have the exact same value.

The equal sign (=) does NOT mean "here comes the answer." It means BALANCE — whatever is on the left has the exact same value as whatever is on the right, like a perfectly balanced scale.

A balanced equation:

🍎🍎🍎=🍎🍎🍎

3 apples on the left = 3 apples on the right. The scale is balanced!

⚖️Balance in equations

5 + 3 = 8 ✅   (left side = 8, right side = 8)
4 + 4 = 8 ✅   (left side = 8, right side = 8)
10 = 7 + 3 ✅  (left side = 10, right side = 10)

The = sign always points to equal amounts on both sides!

True equation ✅

6 + 2 = 89 = 4 + 53 + 3 = 6

False equation ❌

6 + 2 = 95 = 3 + 4

An equation is only true when both sides have the same value!
